Spring fieldwork doesn’t always go as planned! In this video, I bring the Farmall 460 tractor out of the barn for the first mow of the season here in Iowa. What should have been a simple job turned into a breakdown on the side of the road, some troubleshooting, and a few surprises along the way.
From hooking up the mower, greasing the tractor, and mowing grass paths around the fields, to diagnosing a weak spark and finally discovering that the fuel gauge was lying the whole time, this video shows the reality of farming with older equipment. Keeping a 60+ year-old tractor running isn’t easy, but that’s part of the life of an Iowa row crop farmer.
Follow along as I work through the challenges, get the tractor back in the barn, and dig into the repairs. Farming isn’t always smooth sailing, but it’s about persistence, problem solving, and keeping the equipment moving when it matters most.
