Possibly my favourite seasonal job in the orchard, coppicing and pollarding Hazel and Willow.
A traditional craft which looks like ecological destruction, but which actually extends the life of the trees. This process also produces material which is very beneficial for humans and wildlife.
In future videos I'll go on to show how the material we extract from the trees is used to construct dead hedges, grow new trees, improve the soil, and help restore a balanced ecological system on the site.
