Often times. CSP’s priorities are not the same as your enterprise priorities. CSPs want to lock you by adding a lot of computing and data in their cloud. Networking and Security are there but not a priority. When cloud applications became mission-critical, enterprises demanded better network and security capabilities.
So, they gave us a whole bunch of Blackbox tools and said “go build”, and “move fast”. Cloud teams started deploying and connecting various services together to satisfy each business requirement.
The DIY automation could serve your current requirements. But, the person that built it needs to be around to maintain and troubleshoot it. Secondly, these blackbox constructs have insufficient visibility and control.
Another bad trend I see is the utilization of on-prem data center technology in the cloud network. This approach will not help with your IT modernization and digital transformation efforts.
So my suggestion is that when designing cloud networks, you should at least take these four areas into account.
1. Simplicity: CSPs don't provide a simple approach to building a cloud network. They do not take a use-case approach. You are responsible for figuring out different services you need to solve a pain point. Then you need to connect various services yourself to build or solve a pain point or use case.
It becomes extremely complex even if you are building a cloud network in one cloud and one region. Aviatrix provides a single solution to manage and secure your infrastructure across cloud providers: AWS, Google, Azure, Oracle, and Ali Baba.
2. Visibility: Native cloud services often lack consistent and deep visibility, making it difficult to protect your network. Aviatrix CoPilot offers powerful visibility for networks and security operations in single-cloud, multi-cloud, and hybrid-cloud environments.
3. Security: Ensuring the security of your cloud network is crucial.
In the cloud, traditional on-premises centralized security mechanisms are ineffective. The cloud operates in a distributed manner, necessitating the implementation of security measures that don't compromise performance.
With Aviatrix, you can achieve centralized security policy control alongside distributed enforcement and compliance. Your applications are protected by consistent security and networking policies.
4. Cost: Managing cloud costs is crucial to avoid unnecessary expenses.
Networking services offered by Cloud Service Providers can be quite costly, as they often have a fixed hourly rate regardless of usage. Additionally, they charge based on per gigabit packet processing.
On the other hand, Aviatrix offers a predictable fixed per-hour cost, making it easier for FinOps teams to budget and control expenses.`
