Ghalib, Mir & Faiz: A Captivating Recital by Dr. Azra Raza | Presented by Flying Group of Industries

Dr. Azra Raza is the Chan Soon-Shiong Professor of Medicine, Clinical Director of the Evans Foundation MDS Center, and Executive Director of The First Cell Coalition for Cancer Survivors at Columbia University in New York. A distinguished oncologist and researcher, Dr. Raza completed her medical education in Pakistan before training in Internal Medicine at the University of Maryland, Franklin Square Hospital, and Georgetown/VA Medical Center in Washington, D.C. She later pursued a fellowship in Medical Oncology at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York.

With over three decades of experience, Dr. Raza has mentored hundreds of medical students, residents, and oncology fellows while serving on numerous national and international advisory panels. She has collaborated on major research projects with leading pharmaceutical companies, including Celgene, Novartis, Regeneron, and Grail Inc., where she also serves on the Board. Beyond medicine, she is the co-author of *GHALIB: Epistemologies of Elegance*, a book exploring the works of the iconic Urdu poet. Passionate about science, art, and literature, she believes in celebrating human achievements to “tame the savageness of man and make gentle the life of this world.”

In a special literary event organized by the Gardening Clubs of Lahore and OAKS, Dr. Raza captivated the audience with a mesmerizing poetry recital, celebrating the timeless verses of Ghalib, Mir, and Faiz Ahmad Faiz. The evening was further enriched by a thought-provoking conversation between Dr. Raza and Kamran Lashari, a prominent cultural figure in Lahore. Their dialogue explored the deep connections between poetry, history, and human experience, leaving the audience with a profound appreciation for the enduring power of classical Urdu literature.
