@NVHArchive – Sgt. Monti Montillo was part of a unique unit in Vietnam. He was on the Army side of the Mobile Riverine Force which operated in the Mekong Delta. This was a joint operation where the Brown Water Navy would transport the Army soldiers into the delta. The sound of the diesel engines would travel down river and alert the Viet Cong. Most days they could count on at least one ambush and often more. The harsh conditions of frequent combat and immersion in the delta water would necessitate a break after 72 hours of action. The surviving soldiers would be brought back to Navy barracks ships where they would be hosed off and dried out to become effective again. Monti is a man who has followed a distinctive path. From the Riverines to the rehabilitation of raptors, Monti has borne the eagle well.
