Paul Skenes moves on the rubber based on the handedness of the hitter he is facing. Is it the next big trend in MLB?
Let's explore this concept and its viability by looking at it through the lens of an advanced baseball statistics concept known as Horizontal Approach Angle or "HAA."
Within, I'll talk about a few other pitchers who already do this, examine a piece of research from FanGraphs' Alex Chamberlain, and perhaps most importantly, tell you about what coaches thought when I asked them about the idea.
Alex Chamberlain's piece on HAA and adjusted HAA can be found here: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/a-visual-...
Chamberlain also has a pitcher leaderboard that houses HAA if you're interested in looking through leaderboards: https://public.tableau.com/app/profil...
