Gaoming Lai Fun, a traditional specialty of Gaoming District in Foshan, Guangdong, originated in the late Qing Dynasty. The name "Lai Fun" derives from the process of pressing steamed rice paste through perforated plates ("lai holes"). Typically served with slow-cooked pork bone or chicken broth, it is garnished with scallions, peanuts, barbecued pork, and shredded eggs, while festive versions include lotus root and mushrooms. Symbolizing local culinary heritage, it is traditionally eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival to symbolize longevity.
