Jasmine Neosh (Bear Clan of the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin) is an American Indian College Fund ambassador and third-year law student at the University of Michigan. Live from Ann Arbor, she shares the importance of safeguarding federal programs that create greater access to a tribal college education to Native students like her. Jasmine struggled with student loan debt and was couch-surfing before she entered the College of Menominee Nation (CMN) on her home reservation in Wisconsin. There she earned her undergraduate degree while also supplementing her knowledge through research and other opportunities that most students don’t get to experience until graduate school.
Jasmine says a tribal college education at CMN prepared her for the rigors of earning her law degree and a master’s degree in natural sciences at the University of Michigan so that she can return home and serve her community. Jasmine urges American Indian College Fund scholars and supporters to speak out and support initiatives in Washington and the American Indian College Fund to preserve higher education opportunities for Native students.
