Ernesto Lecuona (August 6, 1895 -- November 29, 1963) was Cuba's foremost composer and pianist. He has been labelled as Cuba's Chopin because of his exceptional pianistic skills. He was a prolific composer and many of his pop Cuban music has been elevated to classical status. He emigrated to the USA in 1960 and later died in exile in the Canary Islands from an attack of asthma.
Estudiantina is a student song. This is in the form of a waltz song containing two different waltzes.
In the perfumed night
Silent and alone, full of stars
I bring the fresh complaint
Of my love and my sadness.
In the soft serenade
Which is a lament that my soul cries,
With all the pain and all the travail
That I feel in my heart.
Hear the singing
In the tropical night light
Hear the sound
Of my song, silvery and crystal like,
Hear the singing
In the starlit night
that is of your love
For your love in my heart is blue.
