On today’s ride, I talk about what it means to help your kids without spoiling them — giving them a hand up, not a handout.
Each of my daughters took a different path: one went into the trades, one moved to Hawaii and figured it out through scholarships, one stayed close to home for health reasons, and one is saving while attending community college on a full-ride scholarship.
As parents, we all want to give our kids the best — but it’s easy to give too much. My goal was to help each of them get two years of community college covered, then finish strong at a four-year school debt-free. Beyond that, I wanted them to learn work ethic, patience, and perseverance.
It’s a tough balancing act — but I think the lessons they learned will last far longer than any brand-new car or designer clothes.
