ELLIS-D - Drifting

Brighton-based Post-Punk artist ELLIS-D with his latest single 'Drifting'.

Picking up where he left off on his debut EP ‘We Are The Last Generation’ last December, ‘Drifting’ was recorded by ELLiS·D and producer Maximilian in his shared DIY studio space known to its inhabitants only as ‘The Carwash’ around the same time of his first UK headline tour toward the end of 2021.

New single ‘Drifting’ soars in with a magnetic bassline as shimmering guitars add a layer of gloss to ELLiS·D’s sound, before lifting off to an ethereal dream-like space in the full seven minutes keeping the listener on their toes whilst the pounding and hard-hitting drums also keep the track firmly grounded. Drawing on the themes of ‘Drifting’, ELLiS·D offers: “I wanted to further explore the playful instrumental side on ‘We Are The Last Generation’ whilst shadowing my previous approach to the EP. There’s less of a doom-laden appearance to the single but also less irony to the lyrical approach about processing stories of the darkest nature in the media almost every day of our lives, and how that can often make it feel as though the line between reality and fantasy is permanently blurred.”

ELLiS·D began his solo project back in the summer of 2019 with the release of his debut single ‘Elastic’ which led to support slots with bands such as DITZ, Frankie + The Witch Fingers, U-Bahn and Mush on stages across the UK in the short space of six months before the first lockdown struck. Spending the majority of the pandemic locked away in ‘The Carwash’ honing his craft, a string of self-produced singles over the course of those 18 months ensued in radio play from BBC Introducing, Boogaloo, Amazing, Hoxton Radio + many more before the return to live music saw him truly announce himself as a solo artist in the local scene with a blistering set at Green Door Store’s 234 Festival, culminating in a first UK headline tour in December to support the release of ‘We Are The Last Generation’ EP. ‘Drifting’ is being released via Brighton indie Label Crafting Room Recordings in conjunction with ELLiS·D’s own DIY label Change The F*cking Records!.
