The Hard Problem of Consciousness:
The hard problem of consciousness seeks to address how the non-material phenomenon of human consciousness and qualia can arise from the material functions of the brain.
The Historicity of Christ Argument Syllogism:
Premise 1: If physical processes cannot fully explain human consciousness, then it must have a non-physical source.
Premise 2: Human consciousness (e.g., self-awareness, intentionality, and qualia) cannot be fully explained by physical processes.
Conclusion: Therefore, human consciousness must have a non-physical source, which can be understood as the soul.
3 Perceptions of Reality:
Idealism: The philosophical view that reality is fundamentally mental or immaterial. It holds that the mind or consciousness is the primary substance of existence, and the material world may be a construct of the mind.
Materialism: The view that reality is composed of matter and physical processes. All phenomena, including consciousness, are seen as products of material interactions.
Dualism: The view that reality consists of two distinct and irreducible substances: the material (physical) and the immaterial (mental or spiritual). Mind and body, for example, are seen as separate but interacting entities.

Hard Problem
Think your conscience
What am I thinking?
MRI can detect blood flow
But cannot read thoughts
since we don't possess tools for measuring a soul, we would have to look for evidence that the non-material impacts and material
does the brain impact a person's state of mind?
YES
Idealism: The brain is nothing
Materialism: The Brain is everything
Dualism: The soul and brain both work together
The Limits of Materialism:
The scientific theory is self-refuting
We see a series of interesting phenomena occur within the human consciousness that physical processes cannot entirely explain. Decisions and actions of the human will constantly rewire the brain.
The human brain has neuroplasticity meaning it changes over time based on our experiences on choices.
A non-material choice can have a material impact on the rewiring of the brain. A non-physical process can change a physical brain.
Stroke victims and people who suffer from OCD can rewire their brains by mental exercises alone. By choosing to perform certain mental exercises the brain can reform itself.
choices and experience change the brain
Doctors "said he would never smile, never respond, never grow," Vandal said in a 1989 interview. "All those things have proved to be untrue."
In fact, Vandal said, "Andrew just glows. He laughs, he giggles, he smiles. He has an outgoing, bubbly personality that really draws people to him."
Andrew could not walk or talk, but learned to propel himself by lying on the floor and using his feet.

People with dissociative identity disorder can believe they are blind and turn off the part of their brain that deals with visual perception. But actors cannot perform the same task.
Neural Binding Problem
Christian dualism can provide a unique perspective on mental and physiological health. We recognize the value of caring for people’s physiological and material needs. While simultaneously recognizing the need for spiritual care with response to prayer, community life, forgiveness, purpose, and a connection with the giver of life.
Christian idealism exists in the form of Christian science or the word of faith movement. These groups often fail to appropriately address, serious material concerns related to mental health.
