리셋터즈의 신작 Rocksteady Dance, 한국형 보스 레게로 일상에 춤을 건네다

리셋터즈가 새로운 EP Rocksteady Dance를 들고 돌아왔다. 첫 정규 앨범 이후, 국내 유일의 보스 레게(Boss Reggae) 스타일을 고수해 온 이들의 여정은 이번 EP에서 더욱 뚜렷하게 빛난다. 이번 작품은 보다 팝적이고 친근한 멜로디의 곡들과 록킹한 사운드를 담아, 레게의 흥겨움 위에 일상의 이야기를 실어 나른다.
레게 콜렉터들 사이에서 보스 레게는 루츠 레게와 대비되는 초기 레게의 한 형태로, ‘스킨헤드 레게(Skinhead Reggae)’라고도 불린다. 루츠 레게가 한적한 시골의 정서라면, 보스 레게는 시끄럽고 때로는 복잡한 도시의 리듬과 노동계급의 일상, 현실의 감정을 담는다. 보다 강하고 단순하며 솔직한 감성이 이 장르의 매력이다. 총 4곡이 수록된 이번 EP는 각기 다른 색깔과 메시지를 담고 있다.

1. The Cowboy Dog
(작사 김병후 김장협/ 작곡 김병후/ 편곡 리셋터즈)
기타리스트 김병후가 작곡하고, 보컬 김장협이 공동 작사에 참여한 곡.총잡이와 개의 우화적인 이야기를 통해 부패한 권력에 대한 풍자와 저항을 표현했다. 총잡이는 부패한 보안관과 타락한 목사, 추악한 시장을 차례로 쏘아버리고, 개는 그가 던져준 정체불명의 갈비뼈를 씹는다. 짙은 블랙코미디적 서사가 돋보이는 곡이다.

2. Rocksteady Dance
(작사, 곡 안악희/ 편곡 리셋터즈)
베이시스트 안악희의 곡으로, 희망과 생존의 메시지를 경쾌하게 전달한다.“아침에 세상이 끝날 기분이 들어도, 저녁이 되면 좋은 기분이 들 수도 있잖아.”극단의 슬픔마저 춤으로 넘어서는, 리셋터즈식 회복의 레게 찬가.

3. Do It
(작사, 곡 김장협/ 편곡 리셋터즈)
밴드 초기에 쓰여진 김장협의 자작곡.“네가 무언가를 원한다면 그것을 해야만 한다. 나는 원하는 것을 위해 행동한다. 너도 해야 한다.”단순하면서도 직설적인 가사 속에, 지금 당장 움직이라는 긍정적 에너지가 담겨 있다.

4. 춤 (The Dance)
(작사, 곡 김장협/ 편곡 리셋터즈)Keith & Tex의 리딤 “Stop That Train” 위에 펼쳐지는 리셋터즈의 메시지.지금까지도 잘 해왔고, 앞으로도 잘 해낼 거라는 응원의 노래이자, 사랑의 레게 송.

전작보다 더 부드럽고 즐거운 멜로디로 다가오는 리셋터즈의 Rocksteady Dance는, 한국형 보스 레게의 또 하나의 이정표다. 레게이기에 더 진지해질 수도 있었지만, 리셋터즈는 말한다.
“춤추며 견디자.”음악은 무겁지 않고, 멜로디는 입에 착 감긴다.이제 진지한 얼굴은 잠깐 내려놓고, Rocksteady 리듬에 몸을 맡길 시간이다.

The Reseters’ New EP Rocksteady Dance: A Korean Take on Boss Reggae That Invites You to Dance Through Everyday Life

The Reseters return with their new EP, Rocksteady Dance. Following their first full-length album, the band continues to champion Korea’s only Boss Reggae style, and this latest release further solidifies their unique musical identity. With catchy melodies and rocking energy, the EP captures the joy of reggae while carrying stories of everyday life.

Among reggae collectors, “Boss Reggae” is recognized as an early form of reggae distinct from the more widely known Roots Reggae. Also referred to as “Skinhead Reggae,” it reflects the grit and pulse of urban life, the voices of the working class, and raw emotion. If Roots Reggae evokes the countryside, Boss Reggae is the music of the city—loud, direct, and unfiltered.

This 4-track EP features a range of moods and messages, each track adding its own color to the project.

1. The Cowboy Dog
Guitarist Byunghoo Kim composed the track, with vocalist Janghyeop Kim co-writing the lyrics. A black comedy-styled parable of a gunslinger and his dog, the song satirizes and resists corrupt power. The gunslinger shoots a crooked sheriff, a depraved pastor, and a repulsive mayor in turn—while the dog gnaws on a mysterious rib tossed to him. It’s a biting allegory wrapped in vivid storytelling.

2. Rocksteady Dance
Written by bassist Akhee Ahn, this song delivers a message of survival and hope with an upbeat rhythm.
"Even if the world feels like it's ending in the morning, you might feel fine by the evening."
It’s a reggae anthem of recovery, overcoming even the darkest moments with dance.

3. Do It
An early song written by vocalist Janghyeop Kim.
"If you want something, you have to do it. I act for what I want. You should too."
A track brimming with a direct, positive energy that urges you to take action right now.

4. 춤 (The Dance)
Set over the classic riddim “Stop That Train” by Keith & Tex, this track delivers The Reseters’ message:
A reggae love song and an anthem of encouragement—reminding us that we’ve done well so far, and we’ll keep doing well moving forward.

With smoother melodies and a lighter touch than their previous work, Rocksteady Dance marks a new milestone for Korean Boss Reggae. The Reseters remind us:
"Let’s endure—by dancing."
