In Memory of Queen Elizabeth II 1926-2022.
Listening to some small sections of radio broadcasts recorded on the day of the Queen's State Funeral on some of my vintage radios. The Queen would have made many radio and TV broadcasts throughout her long reign. She made her first radio broadcast to the children of the Commonwealth on the 13th of October 1940 aged14. She delivered this broadcast during World War Two on Children's Hour on the BBC accompanied by her sister Princess Margaret. The Queen broadcast her first Christmas messages to the nation on the radio in 1952 after her ascension and her first Christmas day television broadcast in 1957.
On the occasion of the Queen's coronation on the 2nd June 1953 television in the UK became mainstream and TV sets such as the iconic Bush TV22 were installed in many homes throughout the UK, thus enabling many viewers to watch the historic event. But many would have still listened to the coronation on the wireless as we are here in this video which was recorded on the day of Queen Elizabeth's funeral 19/09/2022.
This is my tribute to the memory of our late Queen and her many iconic broadcasts made to the nation over the years.
The vintage valve radios we see in this video are – Bush DAC90A (1950), Bush DAC70 (1957), Marconiphone P20B (1948), Bush MB60 (1958) and His Masters Voice 1360 (1954).
