Dr. Garrett Ashford's expedition to the Tirekhtyakh River valley in Siberia's Sakha Republic was supposed to be the archaeological discovery of a lifetime. When satellite data revealed a massive thermal anomaly 150 meters beneath the permafrost—in one of the coldest regions on Earth—his team thought they'd found an ancient settlement or perhaps evidence of unknown geological phenomena.

What they actually found was something that had been deliberately sealed away 12,000 years ago by shamans who sacrificed their lives to keep it buried. Something that had been waiting, dreaming, and planning its awakening as the permafrost slowly melted.

In the same region where a 40,000-year-old wolf head was discovered in 2018—severed with surgical precision—Dr. Ashford and his team uncovered a structure made of impossible materials, filled with carvings spanning millions of years, and housing something that was never meant to wake up.
