🦾 Section 1 – Hospital Karel | Code in Place
Welcome to your first section in Code in Place! In this video, we’ll introduce you to your section leader, go over course logistics, and dive into your very first coding challenge with Karel the Robot.
🏥 Challenge: Hospital Karel
Karel is tasked with helping the world by building hospitals wherever there are supply piles (beepers) on the grid. Starting from the left end of the world, Karel will walk along the first row and build vertical columns of beepers (hospitals) wherever a beeper is present.
🎯 Learning Goals
Use functions to organize code
Apply loops and if-statements
Practice problem-solving with a clear structure
Understand the importance of pre-conditions and post-conditions in robotics programming
💡 Remember:
Karel starts at (1, 1), facing east
The world size may vary
Karel should return to the bottom of the last hospital built, facing east
Use helper functions to make your code modular and readable
📌 Whether you're a beginner or brushing up on your skills, this task is a fun and logical first step in your programming journey. Watch, learn, and code along!
