For Dutch standards, we have seen a major winterstorm passing over the whole country during the past 2 days. We have not had so much snow since 1979 and high wind speeds also caused many snow drifts. It was a unique opportunity to get out and take photo's. I chose the Minolta X-700 and 50mm 1.4 and 28mm 2.5 as my companions. Taking photo's in the snow can be tricky when using the internal camera lightmeter. Because of the bright snow, the camera lightmeter will be 'fooled' and underexpose the photo's. You might need to compensate and over-expose from 2/3 to 3 stops, depending on the weather conditions. Best to use an external lightmeter or an 18% grey card and spotmetering. I spent the whole day outside yesterday and walked more than 15 kilometers in the direct area of my home. I decided to use an Ilford HP5+ and when the light conditions are brighter during the second half of the week, I will take out my Rollei 35LED with a roll of ADOX 100 CDS II.
