Powerlines can kill you. Stay 10 metres from downed lines.

Always assume a downed powerline is live and deadly. A live powerline can energize the ground around it, meaning you don’t have to touch it to receive a deadly shock. Keep yourself and everyone else at least 10 metres away, and call the local power utility to report the situation.

Only the power utility can safely determine if a line is energized or not, and it usually involves a site visit. Until they arrive and confirm that the line isn’t live, keep everyone 10 metres away.
