My hometown of Miami is one of the best up-and-coming foodie cities in the United States. My favorite thing to do when I’m at home is to explore everything it has to offer and share it with you guys. Come with me as I try some spicy Szechuan Chinese food in Miami, Florida!
I first visited China back in 2015 with my dad, and then I traveled there solo in 2019. During my second trip, I got a taste of everything from Ningbo to Yunnan to Cantonese cuisine, but the one that sticks in my mind the most is Szechuan, a famously spicy cuisine from a Chinese province of the same name.

I love fiery foods, so I linked up with my boy Karim to have some spicy Chinese food at Foodies LLC, a small Chinese restaurant in Miami. They sell everything from Szechuan to Hong Kong-style food. They’d be giving us a big mix, so I couldn’t wait!
In the kitchen, we met the cook, Weng, who made use some Peking duck, a dim sum platter, fried soft shell crab, spicy tofu, spicy beef with peppers. Everything looked and smelled phenomenal!
One of my favorite things about Szechuan cuisine is the use of numbing spices, which add heat but also numb your lips and tongue! It’s a weird sensation but it’s part of the fun of eating spicy Chinese food!
The restaurant had a nice bar-like feel. They close at 10 p.m. They brought us 8 different dishes in total.
Karim and I started with the crispy shrimp balls, which were fried rock shrimp with a marinade on them. I liked the breading and the hint of spice. They were also chunky and creamy! We enjoyed it with some refreshing lemon black tea.
Next were honey citrus chicken wings, which were coated in a sweet, glazy sauce but were still had a crispy exterior. I added some homemade chili sauce. The heat was amazing and so flavorful! This was real, authentic Chinese food!
Then, we tried the dim sum platter, which included shrimp dumplings, pork siu-mai, chicken dumplings, soy sauce, spicy sauce, and more. I loved the shrimp dumpling with the spicy chili sauce, and Karim loved the chicken dumpling.
The pork siu-mai with both sauces was even more flavorful. I also really liked the chunky pork inside.
Next, we jumped on the Peking duck, which comes with an unbelievable sauce and little wrappings, cucumber, and spring onion. You wrap it up in a little taco for a meaty, sweet, crunchy bite! The chili sauce added some heat!
The chili boiled beef came down in an oily broth with spring onions, sprouts, parsley, and chilies. Immediately, I felt it numb my mouth, but the actual heat sneaks up on you! This was real Szechuan food, and the tingling sensation lingers for a long time!
The Szechuan pepper soft shell crab was fried and came with lots of chilies. It wasn’t too crispy and oily and was so flavorful!
Next, we went for the Singapore curry rice noodles, because my mouth was still on fire! They were dry, but adding a bit of soy sauce livened them up!
Our final spicy dish was the mapo tofu. The tofu was nice and fluffy, and wasn’t as spicy as I though it would be. It was flavorful and melts in your mouth. It pairs well with white rice.
Then, I went back to the chili boiled beef because it was just way too good! I was dying from the heat but I loved it!
My favorite dishes were the spicy beef, Peking duck, noodles, and dim sum but Karim’s favorite was the honey citrus chicken wings!
