Xi Jinping visits Tibet for ‘TAR’ 60 anniversary: Significance and Implication
Xi Jinping recently made a rare trip to Lhasa, Tibet, to participate in the 60th anniversary of the so-called ‘Tibet Autonomous Region.’ This was only the second such trip made by a Chinese president during his tenure, making him the second president ever to visit Tibet. We sat down with Sikyong Penpa Tsering and Bhuchung K. Tsering from the International Campaign for Tibet to discuss the significance of Xi Jinping’s visit and its implications, particularly in the context of more than 66 years of Chinese control over Tibet and the ongoing aspirations of the Tibetan people for freedom and cultural preservation.
