Testing 2 different ways to speed puzzle

I have been doing some 500 piece puzzles lately and can't seem to improve my time. I watched a video from a friend "Janette and her puzzles" and she sorted her pieces first before putting pieces together. She said she got very good times. I felt that maybe I have to try this method. I usually just dump out the pieces flip them all and start puzzling. So I put both methods to the test to see which was faster.
