Australia leads the world in per capita solar power generation, but that success comes with big engineering challenges. What happens when the sun goes down, when prices crash in the middle of the day, and when the old spinning coal machines that keep the grid stable shut down for good?

In this video, I look at how batteries and grid-forming inverters are transforming Australia’s power system, from early weak-grid fixes like synchronous condensers to modern software-defined stability. I also speak with Sungrow, who are building some of Australia’s largest battery and inverter projects, to learn how their technology is keeping the lights on in the world’s most solar-powered grid.
