Mean Flows: One-Step Image Generation, No Sweat!
This research introduces the concept of "average velocity" to characterize flow fields in generative models, unlike previous Flow Matching methods which model "instantaneous velocity." This allows for a principled framework for one-step generation, deriving a relationship between average and instantaneous velocities to guide training, eliminating the need for pre-training, distillation, or curriculum learning.
