Carnegie Hall - New York, April 3rd, 1957 , concerto benefico, direttore Dimitri Mitropoulos, con The Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra.
I've never heard Leonora's opening aria from Il Trovatore sung with more passion. Tebaldi has so far been the only soprano to my ears who sounded truly in love with Manrico. She even surpasses her own earlier recordings in this live performance. Maybe it was the special relationship she had with the great maestro Mitropoulos that brought out the best of her like in all their performances together.
Vocally she's in splendid form, notice the amazingly easy crescendo she does in many phrases without spreading the voice or how she always sings all those vowels and consonants clearly and crisply. This Leonora loves every word she sings!
The sound is only average but warm and clearn enough to enjoy this great scene at Carnegie Hall.
