This video is all about a short story called “A Devoted Son” which we have summarized in Nepali. We have taken the story from Class 12 Compulsory English under NEB. It is written by Indian novelist Anita Desai (born on 24 June 1937) who is also a famous writer of children’s books and short stories. This story is taken from Desai’s collection named The Complete Short Stories. We have explained the short story in a simple manner so that students can solve questions and answers from the exercise on their own words.
About the writer:
The writer was born in Uttarakhand, India during the British rule. She was born to the parents named Toni Nime (mother) and D. N. Mazumdar (father). Her father was a Bengali businessman whereas her mother was a German immigrant.
Her major literature achievements include being shortlisted for the Booker Prize three times as a writer. For her novel Fire on the Mountain, she received a Sahitya Akademi Award in 1978. Also, she is the receiver of the British Guardian Prize for The Village by the Sea.
