Shared Reading Big Book Kindergarten

In this Shared Reading small group lesson, we are working on developing tons of oral language by talking about everything we notice in the photographs. We are always working on comprehension and thinking about what this informational text is teaching us as we have a conversation about the photos. After we read it together, our next step is transferring the foundational skills taught in isolation into context using phonemic awareness, phonics with making words, and connecting everything back together again with writing. This lesson can take place over a few days by rereading the text and then choosing a different foundational or writing skill to work on. These big books are amazing by Hameray Publishing since the topics are kid friendly, engaging, and exactly matches their level of skill work and interest- which is a huge key to building that LOVE of reading!
