In this Tips and Tricks video, Callum is on a late-model Riviera and guides us through how to use the Auto Guidance and Go-To functions on the Garmin Marine GPS chartplotter system.
Auto Guidance:
Garmin Auto Guidance is a feature that uses chart data to calculate a suggested, safe navigation path to your destination, avoiding shallow waters and known obstacles. This advanced system can navigate channels to ensure you have a safe passage. Although it is not always fully accurate, the Auto Guidance function is a great aid in your navigation.
Go-To:
The Garmin "Go To" function is the standard navigation method, providing a straight-line path (as the crow flies) to a chosen destination, which may include routes over land or other obstacles. This is useful in more open waters, and is more advanced than the Heading Hold function as it follows a GPS track instead of a compass heading, meaning that currents won't push you sideways like they would in a compass Heading Hold.
