Computed radiography is a type of digital radiography (in so much as the radiograph is ultimately displayed as a digital image). The process itself is largely analogue. Here we will discuss the formation of a latent image as well as the processing steps required to create the final radiograph. We review the constituents of the computed radiography cassette including europium doping and F centres. Then we will review how shining red laser light will cause phosphorescence to occur leading to a signal that can be converted into a digital pixel value.
