Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series
Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race - Race 24 of 36
Bristol Motor Speedway
Bristol, TN
On the morning of the race, we visit downtown Bristol which is also known as the 'Birthplace of Country Music.' Bristol's City Limits are divided by the Tennessee Virginia State Line. In this video the left side of 'State Street' is Tennessee and the right side is Virginia, which is also stated in the markers on the road's double yellow center line. Also, the state flags of both are flying on their respective sides of the street. The large sign over State Street originally built in 1910 was modified and moved to its current location in 1921. An older 1937 photo of the sign is hanging up in a restaurant we highly recommend called 'Broad Street on State' on the Tennessee side of the street. On the other side of the street in Virginia just a short distance away is another restaurant called the Burger Bar, which first opened in 1942 and is the last place Hank Williams Sr. was seen alive before his death in 1953.
Inside Bristol Motor Speedway at 2:22 standing closest with his back towards you is NASCAR Official David Green. David competed in the NASCAR Nextel (Monster Energy NASCAR) Cup Series from 1995 to 2004 where he captured one pole at Homestead-Miami in 1999. He also has 9 wins in the NASCAR Nationwide (Xfinity) Series along with being the 1994 champion. David has two brothers who are Jeff and Mark Green. Jeff was the 2003 Daytona 500 polesitter and won the 2000 NASCAR Busch Grand National (Xfinity) Series championship. Mark has numerous starts in the NASCAR Nationwide (Xfinity) Series between 1995 and 2011 and still currently races Legend Cars in the INEX Bojangles' Summer Shootout at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
During the race Alex Bowman hit the wall because of flat tire and in the process was also hit by Joey Logano and William Byron which brought out the 7th caution on lap 364. Byron, in the #24 Liberty University Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Hendrick Motorsports, made several pit stops throughout the rest of the night to repair damage to the nose of his car and finished four laps down in 21st position. Denny Hamlin in the #11 FedEx Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing, who was also on the pole, won the race.
