The key difference is not markets versus planning. It is power. In the United States, capital is an independent force. Wealth does not just generate profit—it shapes politics, influences institutions, and quietly sets national priorities. In China, capital exists, entrepreneurs succeed, and wealth is created, but capital does not rule. Political authority decides the direction of the country, not money.

This is why globalization triggered social backlash across much of the Western world, while delivering stability and poverty reduction in China. Capital has no loyalty to society, culture, or nation. Left alone, it goes wherever profit is highest. People everywhere sense this. They do not want their lives governed solely by capital markets. They want outcomes, not ideology.

So the real question isn’t whether China or the United States is “right.” The question is far more unsettling. In a world where globalization clearly rewards capital first, which system is actually capable of protecting society? And if the current rules keep enriching the few while hollowing out the many, how long can any political system—Western or otherwise—maintain legitimacy?

That debate is no longer abstract. It is already reshaping the global order. And the uncomfortable truth is this: the future of globalization may depend less on markets—and more on who ultimately controls them.
