⌲ If you have a public instagram account, then you've probably received your fair share of DMs from random accounts asking if you want to partner with them. You know the type: "I'm with @ (insert larger brand account here) and we'd love to partner with you!" Of course, the accounts always have 0 followers, 0 posts, a blank bio, no profile photo... So naturally, you delete them.

Well, I got a couple of those Instagram DMs asking me to join their brand ambassador program from accounts that were more established than I'd seen before (emphasis on more established... still not that established). I figured it was an obvious scam targeted at creators with teeny tiny platforms and decided to lead them on to find out more... but once I started digging, things weren’t as straightforward as I expected.
