This is a Livestream Q&A/Ask Us Anything for answering YOUR questions on YouTube. In this Q&A session we will answer your electrochemistry research questions LIVE, as well as any other questions related personal topics like careers, academia, industry, or life in general.

We have compiled a database of all questions asked in our Ask Us Anything About Electrochemistry Livestreams, tagged by the question subject and linked with time stamps to the place in that week's Livestream. If you are interested in obtaining a copy of this database (MS Excel file), please reach out via comments here or directly to us at [email protected].

Check out https://aftermathlive.com, Pine Research's online electrochemical simulation software! Perfect for the classroom or research lab, licenses are available for simulating CV and bulk electrolysis of a variety of chemical and electrochemical reactions. Accessible on both PC and Mac!

Time stamps:
00:00 - Introduction
06:00 - Livestream starts
9:34 - When conditioning an electrode (500 µm polycrystalline Pt) in dilute acid (20 mM sulfuric) by CV (200 mV/s, we see the CV "improve" with oxide formation and hydride peaks forming and leveling out. Using a high-speed EIS technique we developed, we see surface capacitance (calculated by CPE) increasing and leveling out during CV. Is this simply roughening of the surface, or a mix of roughening and cleaning (removal of surface impurities)?
18:24 - Can we use a two electrode system in research work instead of a three electrode system?
25:47 - Can we get the iV characteristics of solar cells using a potentiostat?
34:20 - I'm doing research on MOF synthesis. What is the EIS graph use in MOF applications?
38:38 - I want to know about electrochemistry and its application in research fields. Where can I begin a basic understanding?
43:59 - What are the overpotentials frequently reported for AEMWEs?
48:11 - I have done LSV for a Na symmetric cell and measured OCP before and after and it doesn't have the same value. What could be the cause of seeing different OCP values?
1:00:00 - What can you say about CV of a carbon coating from 0-1.6 V, a peak at 0.5 V vs. NHE. The CV was done 4 times at 50 µV/s with this same peak not decreasing potential, but no reduction peak. I also tried scanning at 200 µV/s and the peak was invisible.
1:12:02 - In supercapacitor applications, how do you differentiate between two EIS spectra to determine which is better?
1:14:44 - Which corrosion prevention method involves coating iron with a layer of zinc that corrodes before the iron does?
1:29:29 - For my liquid electrolyte system, both Na and Li symmetric cells, I found that the electrolyte is volatile and I get high resistance (12 kΩ). Would this volatility affect mass transfer?
1:45:36 - Can you talk about pulsed electrodeposition?
1:53:32 - Research Pitch Meeting episode 1:    • Research Pitch Meeting 1: The Battery Proj...
1:55:47 - I want to determine whether a solid oxide electrolyte material has ionic conductivity properties or not. How can I determine these properties using EIS?
