Title:
Introduction to the National Research Platform
Abstract:
This session introduces the National Research Platform (NRP), a distributed cyberinfrastructure designed to support data-intensive and experimental research. Built as the Nautilus Kubernetes cluster, NRP spans multiple institutions and provides access to a broad range of computing resources, including CPUs, FPGAs, SmartNICs, and other novel compute architectures. Participants will gain an overview of NRP’s capabilities and services, including interactive computing environments (JupyterHub, Coder), virtualization via KubeVirt, persistent storage, and access to high-speed research networks. The talk will explain how access is managed through federated identity and resource allocations, and how users can request compute and storage for projects. We will also describe how institutions can participate by contributing hardware or integrating their local clusters into the larger platform, and what support exists for onboarding new sites.
