Leaking Tile Shower | Lots Of Damage And Rot | Columbia MO

We are replacing another leaking tile shower in Columbia MO.

This tile shower has been leaking since the home was built. Unfortunately for the current homeowner, it somehow wasn’t caught on inspection of the home when he purchased it a couple years ago. The home inspector found water spots in the basement and attributed them to an old leak, not an ongoing one.

I’ve replaced a couple showers in homes built by this contractor. For some reason the tile installer doesn’t use the waterproofing membrane on top of the foam pan and the showers leak.

This particular job the leak was so bad we also had to replace quite a bit of floor tile outside the shower as well. Luckily the homeowner had a few tiles that matched the bathroom so we were able to use those and save the rest of the floor.

When a tile shower is built properly they are a great asset to any home. A leaking tile shower will do a lot of damage and is a liability. When you’re hiring someone to work in your home ask a lot of questions. Find out what they’re using and do a little research on your own. It’s the only way you can truly protect yourself from contractors that don’t know what they’re doing.
