Unsolved Southeast Texas: Vidor police chief says it's time for closure in Kathy Page homicide

Kathy Page's body was found in the driver's seat of her car about 75 yards from her home in Vidor.

What appeared to be a tragic accident has become one of the longest unsolved cases in Southeast Texas.

Kathy, who worked at what was then the Hoffbrau Restaurant in Beaumont was separated from her husband Steve Page.

After interviewing friends and family, Vidor police say all signs point to Steve Page as the prime suspect, but more than 32 years later, he is still a free man.

On May 14, 1991, Vidor police responded to a wreck, they found a car crashed into a ditch near the intersection of the I-10 service road and West Bolivar Street.

Kathy Page, 34, was the woman behind the wheel, and she was dead.

Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll says officers quickly recognized the accident scene had been staged to mislead investigators an cover up a homicide. He says an autopsy showed Kathy had been strangled to death.

Steve and Kathy were in the process of getting a divorce at the time of her death. Page was named the prime suspect days after Kathy's killing and Chief Carroll says Page remains so today.
