By crown of piercing thorn!
O bleeding Head, so wounded,
Reviled and put to scorn!
Death's pallid hue comes o'er Thee,
The glow of life decays,
Yet angel hosts adore Thee
And tremble as they gaze.

What language shall I borrow
To thank Thee, dearest Friend,
For this, Thy dying sorrow,
Thy pity without end?
O make me Thine forever;
And should I fainting be,
Lord, let me never, never
Outlive my love for Thee.

Haec Tibi dona pura, o Deus, placeant.
Te omnis creatura coelique celebrant.
Nos quoque Te laudamus per almam hostiam.

A Te, Pater, creati nos Tibi reddimus.

English Translation - Last 3 Verses:

O sacred Head, now wounded,
with grief and shame weighed down,
Now scornfully surrounded
with thorns, Thine only crown;
O sacred Head, what glory,
what bliss till now was Thine!
Yet, though despised and gory,
I joy to call Thee mine.

May these pure gifts be pleasing to Thee, O God.
All of creation and the heavens glorify Thee.
We also praise Thee by this nourishing sacrifice.
And suppliantly placate Thy justice.

Created by Thee, Father, we give ourselves back to Thee.
And, consecrated to Thee, may we our lives be more holy.
May Thy people flourish with the virtues of the saints.
May the world reflect the glory of heaven.
