Cisitalia 202

In 1947, the Cisitalia 202 was presented at the Villa d'Este Coppa d'Oro in Como, and then at the Paris Motor Show, where it was a resounding success.Five weeks later, the famous driver Tazio Nuvolari entered the Mille Miglia with this car, but could only take second place behind Clemente Biondetti at the wheel of the pre-war Alfa Romeo 8C 2900. Over the next four years, 20 Cisitalia 202 SMM Nuvolari Spyder roadsters were sold, similar to the one which Nuvolari rode. At the same time, several variants of the coupe, designed by designer Giovanni Savonuzzi, went on sale.
The first two Cisitalia 202 CMMs, built from aluminum at Vignale, were made in an aviation style: they had elongated rear fenders with streamlined tail fins and metal shields on the wheels, four rectangular openings in the front fenders, an oval grille in the form of a jet air intake, V-shaped windshield and tapering sloping roof with opening rear window.It is probably from this car that General Motors designers copied the fins for the Cadillac models and the air vents for the Buick.There were also alternative projects for aerodynamic coupes from Cassone and Rocco Motto.

According to various sources, from 1947 to 1952. between 150 and 200 Cisitalia 202s were produced. Most of them are elegant coupes from Pinin Farina, one of which was exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art.
