Patna police have arrested 13 individuals in connection with the investigation into a paper leak. SSP Rajeev Mishra stated that aspirants from various places in Bihar were brought to a rented house in Patna's Ramkrishna Nagar, where they were given question papers. The mastermind behind the paper leak is said to be Sanjeev Singh from Nalanda. In the two rooms on the ground floor of the rented house in Ramkrishna Nagar, 25 students were made to memorize questions and answers. Burnt question papers were also recovered from the spot. So far, 13 people, including four aspirants and their parents, have been arrested in this case.
Meanwhile, Gujarat police reported that a criminal case has been registered against a school teacher and two others in Panchmahal district's Godhra for helping candidates during the exam. They are accused of charging 1 million rupees each from six candidates to solve the NEET UG exam paper.
NTA had earlier stated that there was no paper leak
The National Testing Agency (NTA) had dismissed the allegations of the NEET UG exam paper leak on Monday, calling them baseless. An official notice was issued by NTA. An NTA official mentioned that at exam centers in Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, and Balod, Chhattisgarh, English medium papers were distributed instead of Hindi medium. Some students took away the papers from these centers and might have leaked them. However, since the exam had already started, this cannot be considered a paper leak.
Elsewhere, nine members of a solver gang were arrested during the NEET exam in Bihar. Patna police arrested five people, including three medical students, while four others were arrested from Purnia, all of whom are medical students. Additionally, a dummy candidate was arrested from Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra.
In Bahadurgarh, students claimed that their papers were switched midway through the exam at two centers, causing a loss of time. They also alleged that dummy papers were given first, followed by the original ones, which were out of syllabus and whose answer keys were not available on the internet. Students are demanding a re-examination from the government.
As soon as the NTA declared the NEET UG 2024 results, various images and posts started going viral on social media. Be it the number of AIR 1 toppers, scores of 718 and 719, eight toppers from a single exam center, or the newly applied normalization criteria for lost time, NEET 2024 results became a hot topic overnight. People are suspicious as all eight toppers from a single center have roll numbers in the same series. This unusual pattern has led to speculations about coordinated cheating or a breach in the NEET 2024 exam process, prompting demands for a re-examination.
A total of 67 candidates scored AIR 1 in the NEET 2024 exam. Although all 67 students are rank 1 holders, their All India Rank for counseling was announced in decimal points by NTA. NTA has not clarified how these counseling ranks were distributed among the 67 AIR 1 holders, raising questions about the fairness of NEET UG 2024.
Additionally, according to the NEET merit list released by NTA, six students from the same exam center scored 720 marks, which appears to be an unusual coincidence. Eight candidates with roll numbers starting from "2307010" and from the same exam center scored the highest marks, with six achieving rank 1, while the remaining two secured ranks 68 and 69.
Moreover, there has been a significant increase in this year's exam cut-off, now at 720-164, compared to 720-137 last year. Given the circumstances, people suspect a paper leak or result scam.
During the NEET exam held in May, reports of paper leaks emerged from various places. Patna police arrested 13 people on May 5 in connection with the alleged paper leak in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
Anu, a 23-year-old from Lakhisarai, Bihar, became emotional and said, "I studied for the NEET exam for 18 hours daily. My exam went very well, and I was very happy. But the paper leak and result discrepancies ruined everything. I scored 650 marks in NEET but still ranked 29927. Last year, those who scored 650 marks had ranks between 7000 and 8000. I don't know what to do; I worked very hard."
