A native of Wisconsin, Dave Mills graduated from Iowa State University, College of Veterinary Medicine, in 1981. His veterinary inclinations led him through dairy cattle practice, including some pets, horses, and a pig, an unlikely specialty in turkey medicine, and full circle back to pet practice. Dave lives in Shell Lake, Wisconsin, with his wife, Lynne, and their Black Lab, Molly.
Dave will give some background on his manuscript, COW TALES: MEMORIES OF A RURAL ANIMAL DOCTOR, and describe a shocking scene along US Highway 53 from a chapter titled The Mad Axe Man. Dave will also share some of his adventures fly fishing the Namekagon River in January.
Carol Dunbar is a working writer and former actor, playwright, and coloratura soprano who left her life in the city to live off the grid. Her first novel, The Net Beneath Us, won the Edna Ferber Fiction Book Award and her second novel, A Winter’s Rime, releases in the fall of 2023.
She writes from a solar-powered office on the second floor of a water tower in northern Wisconsin, where she lives in a house in the woods with her husband, two kids, and a Great Pyrenees Mountain Dog.
