Judy Gingell (CM) is the elder advisor to the council of Kwanlin Dün First Nation, whose traditional territory encompasses the city of Whitehorse. She was a signatory on the Land Claims and Self Government Agreement in 1993, twenty years after presenting the grievance document “Together Today for Our Children Tomorrow” to Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. Gingell became Yukon’s first Aboriginal commissioner in 1995. She was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2009 for social service and received the Yukon Commissioner’s Award for Public Service. She lives in Whitehorse.
