David Harrison (msibnsf) organized a private charter train on the CTA 2400 Series Heritage Fleet rail cars to raise funds for the repairs and restoration of CTA 6000 Series cars #6101-02. A special thanks to him and everyone who participated for this day full of fun.
This was a re-enactment of the Douglas-O'Hare route following today's Pink and Blue Lines as a skip-stop "B" train as it would run before 1993 when CTA changed the names of its lines according to color and remove skip-stop service in 1995.
The Douglas-O'Hare (West-Northwest) route became part of the Blue Line during this change. In 2006 CTA tested Pink Line service on the Douglas, which gave the line its own route. Instead of going to O'Hare via the Loomis Ramp and the Milwaukee-Dearborn subway, from 54th/Cermak, Pink Line trains would travel via the Paulina Connector and Lake Street, circle around Chicago's Loop, and head back the same route to 54th/Cermak in Cicero.
Blue Line service to 54th/Cermak ended April 25th, 2008. The Loomis Ramp is currently only used for non-revenue equipment moves and during rush hour to provide extra trains from 54th Yard to the Northwest side of the city. However, these trains only run in service between Racine and Jefferson Park.
