Sea Otter Fuego XL - Ride Along

We made the trip out to Monterey, California for the Sea Otter Festival. There was lots of different racing on offer but the dirt was calling the loudest so I took on the Fuego XL mountain bike race.
The 2 lap event was billed at 70 miles with 7000ft of climbing. It ended up being 65 miles with 8000ft of climbing, but what a 1000ft of vertical between friends.
The course was very challenging but fantastic trails. Over the 65 miles there was only 2 miles total of flat ground. Up and down was the nature of the day. The trails were a mix of sand, mud, hard pack and even a short piece of tarmac on each lap.
The event is a great festival of cycling regardless of if you're riding or just there to spectate. The Expo is filled with vendors of all things bike and bike related. So there's something for everyone.
