Paulo Salgueiro, Jr. is the son of both Azorean immigrants. In 2019 he developed the character João Cagão as a way to pay homage to the Azorean immigrant and to promote culture and storytelling. He has performed stand-up, produced comedic cooking segments, and lifestyle comparison videos through his online presence. The Portuguese Times wrote that he is the new face to Portuguese-American comedy. He has also written and produced a documentary, appeared in films, and hosted his own radio and TV shows. He currently serves on a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic and sexual assault. Aside from comedy he holds a Master’s degree in criminal justice and is an advocate for mental health, criminal justice reform and immigration.
