KSA marine educators Shale Shore and Julie Gardner were invited to participate in a funded international research experience! This collaborative program using community GIS and citizen science will prepare them to incorporate geospatial technologies into our programs to inspire science's next generation. The University of Central Florida Summer 2020 Community GIS and Citizen Science REU and RET Site sponsored by The National Science Foundation will include virtual team collaboration at UCF followed by field work in Hopkins Village, Belize. The two research areas are:
Research Track 1: Leveraging community geography and GIS to map disparities in flooding.
Research Track 2: Leveraging community geography and GIS to reduce waste and prevent marine debris.
