According to local reports, a man named Kumam Koiremba — a resident of Moirang (near Loktak Lake) — claimed that on 15 June 2011, at around 3:21 pm, he saw a “fast-spinning unidentified flying object” above the skies near the lake.
He said the object descended from rainy grey clouds above Salengthel Hill, then hovered or descended nearer. He began recording it on his phone.
According to his description, the object — roughly “2–3 feet in diameter” — emitted a bright, blinding light and a powerful wind, then “discharged an electrically charged beam of lights” that caused him to lose consciousness “instantly.”
He was reportedly hospitalised (first at a district hospital, then at a hospital in Imphal). According to him, although initial medical and ECG tests were normal, he continued to feel weakness, occasional fainting spells, and strange “electric sensations” in his body.
The incident was reported in local media at the time, though it did not become an “international” sensation and seems to have been largely ignored or forgotten in mainstream discourse.
To this day, there is no publicly verified scientific conclusion about what the object was. It remains an anecdotal UFO claim near Loktak Lake. Some local interest pieces list it among UFO sightings in Northeast India.

✈️ The Imphal Airport (Bir Tikendrajit) UFO incident — November 2023
On 19 November 2023 around 2:30–3:00 pm IST, security and airport personnel at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Imphal reported sighting an “unidentified flying object” over the airfield.
The object — described by some as a “white flying object” or “small object visible to the naked eye” — hovered above or near the control tower/airfield and remained visible until roughly 4:00 pm (just before sunset); after that it vanished.
Because of the sighting, the airport’s controlled airspace was closed. As a result, two inbound flights were diverted, and three outbound flights were delayed.
In response, the Indian Air Force (IAF) scrambled two of its Dassault Rafale fighter jets (from the Hasimara base) to intercept or investigate the object. The jets carried out low-level flying over the suspected area.
However — according to official reports — the jets could not see or detect the object once they got airborne. After some time, the object was no longer visible. The IAF Eastern Command said its “Air Defence response mechanism” had been activated on the basis of visual inputs from the airport.
As of the last reports: defence and civil-aviation authorities have not released a public, definitive conclusion about what the object was. It has not been confirmed whether it was a drone, balloon, or some other phenomenon — the matter remains unexplained.
Some media and defence analysts speculated it could have been a surveillance balloon (similar to others spotted globally) — possibly even a “spy balloon” from a foreign power — though this is unconfirmed.
