In a world where one language dies every 14 days, scientists believe that we could see 50% of Earth's languages extinct by the year 2100.

This poses a challenge to linguists: they must document these dying languages before they are gone completely. From the jungles of Peru to Sub-Saharan Africa all the way to the Pacific islands, languages totaling less than 200 speakers are far more common than we think. This video looks at 7 endangered languages, one from each continent (less Antarctica).

The 7 languages are:

Oneida in North America.
Chamicuro in Peru.
Njerep in Cameroon.
Ume Sami in Sweden.
Kusunda in Nepal.
Yanyuwa in Australia.
Tobi in Palau.
