Did you know... that the anime My Neighbor Totoro inspired Japan to create a real nature preserve? After the film’s 1988 release, Hayao Miyazaki helped establish the Totoro no Furusato fund, which protects the Sayama Hills forests near Tokyo, the prototype for Totoro’s forest. This is noted on Studio Ghibli’s official website.
