Elgin has been a railroad town for 170 years, starting in 1850. Throughout its history, over a dozen different railroads companies have operated on eight different lines coming into Elgin. Over eight depots have served Elgin to include three for the Watch factory. Commuter train service dates back to the early years of operations and went as far as Kirkland. At one point trains could be caught to and from the West Coast and other long distance points. Andy will discuss how the railroad helped shape Elgin.
