Chernobyl Arch : The World's Most Dangerous Construction Site

April 26, 1986 is a date that will live long in the memory. At 1:26 a.m., the core of reactor No. 4 at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine exploded in the middle of the night. A huge explosion blew the reactor's 2,000-ton concrete shell nearly 15 meters into the air.

It was the starting point for what was to become the world's worst nuclear accident. It was marked by the Chernobyl cloud, a radioactive plume that crossed much of Europe.

It was a catastrophe that also concealed an unprecedented construction adventure: the building of the Chernobyl sarcophagus and the huge containment structure that exists today.

A radioactive epic begun just one month after the catastrophe by Soviet engineers and partially completed in 2019! In this new episode of Looking 4, I take you to the heart of this unprecedented project to tell you all about the challenges of the Chernobyl Arc, a unique megastructure in the world.
