Ikiri Ada — “The Restless Machete” — is my personal study of stick-and-machete fencing, rooted in the living traditions of the African diaspora.
In this video, we explore defense against an overhead head strike, followed by a quick counter and a swift reposition. The movements draw from several stick-and-machete systems: Esgrima con Machete (Colombia), Tire Manchèt (Haiti), Kokobale (Puerto Rico), and Garrote Larense (Venezuela).
I approach these arts as a student—respecting their cultural context—while also testing them as viable combat systems, especially where their techniques overlap and inform one another.
